In its continuing crackdown on industrial polluters, theMetropolitan Water Reclamation District on Thursday cited 214industries for violating waste-water pretreatment requirements.
Under the Federal Clean Water Act, industries are required topretreat waste water before discharging it into the sewers, and thedistrict is responsible for ensuring that the companies comply.
After the district's pretreatment monitoring was criticized inan administrative order from the federal Environmental ProtectionAgency last year, the district stepped up its efforts.
